Confidentiality
Dr. Menendez places great importance on safeguarding your privacy and will not discuss your treatment with anyone unless you have authorized it by signing a release of information form. Further, without your written consent, she will not disclose whether you are a current or former patient. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality, which will be outlined in the informed consent that you must sign before your first appointment.
Dr. Menendez, like all licensed psychologists, is a mandated reporter, which means that she must report instances of child or elder abuse to the appropriate authorities. Moreover, suppose she believes you pose a serious risk of committing suicide or homicide. In that case, she will be obligated to report this to the relevant agencies to ensure the safety of both herself and others.
