Interpersonal Difficulties
Interpersonal difficulties refers to problems that people typically experience when relating to others. For example, someone may often find that in relationships they feel they have been used or lied to in some way. Someone else may experience that they tend to always date the "Mr. or Ms. Wrong". While the person does not intend to repeat the same experiences with people in their lives, they find themselves in similar situations time and time again. With psychotherapy, Dr. Menendez can treat interpersonal difficulties and assist patients in attempting to stop these patterns.
Grief and Loss and its Treatment
Grief is your emotional reaction to loss. Emotional reactions can run the gamut from feelings of numbness to intense rage. Loss is the absence of something which one previously had. People experience loss when any new change occurs in their lives. This can include going away to college, starting a new job, being diagnosed with an illness, the death of a loved one and even births. When grief has been circumvented in some way or otherwise not experienced, it may lead to difficulties in the person's life. Psychotherapy has been shown to be helpful in the processing of grief and the healthy acceptance of a loss.
Clinical Depression
When interpersonal difficulties or grief is not resolved, it may lead to a diagnosable clinical depression. Clinical depression is a very specific diagnosis that has far reaching and possibly devastating effects. Clinical depression is not about "feeling blue" or "sad". Those who suffer from clinical depression cannot simply will themselves out of their feelings. Some signs of clinical depression include loss of interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyed, such as going out with friends, hobbies, sports, sex, etc.; difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions; neglecting responsibilities or personal appearance; persistent sad or "empty" mood, lasting two or more weeks; crying "for no reason"; feeling hopeless, helpless, guilty or worthless; and feeling irritable or agitated. Dr. Menendez can diagnose and treat clinical depression.
